Ok, I will start by saying there is no 'worst' class for PvP or PvE... Guild Wars is balanced, which allows any class to be good. There is no 'best' either, as all classes offer something good, it just depends on what you want to do, and what you enjoy doing.
Now, that said, I will offer some advice. Before you discount my advice (supposing you would), know that I have 12 PvE characters, all classes but Paragon (yet to make one of those), and roughly 6000 hours in the game. I use Heroes and Hench, unless helping a friend. I have completed Master reward on Hard Mode missions, Vanquished, and mapped with Heroes and Hench. I know how to use them, as that is all I use, and I do very well in the game. I always take 1 Monk Hero. The Hench Monks are not very good for the most part, but some of them are worth using. Depending on where I am, I take a different option for my Hero. I always have 1 heal, and 1 protect. The heal Hench are the ones I like the least, so Dunkoro (always set as heal) is the one I use the most. Hench Monks I use are Khim, Lina, Redemptor Karl, and Seaguard Gita. Areas that don't have any of those Hench I use Tahlkora for Protect and take Alesia or Mhenlo. Build I use most (although gets tweeked based on what we face) for my 2 Monks are: [skill]Healer's Boon[/skill][skill]Ethereal Light[/skill][skill]Dwayna's Kiss[/skill][skill]Orison of Healing[/skill][skill]Healing Seed[/skill][skill]Healing Breeze[/skill][skill]Dismiss Condition[/skill][skill]Resurrection Chant[/skill] 16 Healing Prayers 13 Divine Favor 4 Protection Prayers [skill]Blessed Light[/skill][skill]Reversal of Fortune[/skill][skill]Guardian[/skill][skill]Protective Spirit[/skill][skill]Aegis[/skill][skill]Shield of Absorption[/skill][skill]Blessed Aura[/skill][skill]Rebirth[/skill] 15 Protection Prayers 14 Divine Favor I make more changes to this build than my Heal build, based on where I am. The elite is what gets changed the most. Other elites I use are: [skill]Divert Hexes[/skill][skill]Zealous Benediction[/skill][skill]Life Sheath[/skill][skill]Restore Condition[/skill][skill]Signet of Removal[/skill] If the elite I am using does not offer condition removal, I change Shield of Absorption for Dismiss Condition. Ok, that should cover Monk.... the other class I take 95% of the time is Necro. Olias is my Minion Master, and having minions is a big aid. They absorb damage the team would get, and help kill things as well. Although I run MM well myself, I find Hero MMs can do better than real people due to their ability to target minions fast and easy. Here is my standard MM build for Olias. [skill]Animate Flesh Golem[/skill][skill]Animate Shambling Horror[/skill][skill]Animate Vampiric Horror[/skill][skill]Animate Bone Horror[/skill][skill]Death Nova[/skill][skill]Blood of the Master[/skill][skill]Heal Area[/skill][skill]Dark Bond[/skill] 16 Death Magic 10 Soul Reaping 9 Healing Prayers 3 Blood Magic Dark Bond is the only skill I change. I will put in Resurrection Chant, Infuse Condition, or Blood Ritual depending on what we face, and what hench I take. Only problem I have with Olias is he keeps Death Nova on the minions at all times. This is good, because it causes damage and poison to enemies, but it makes him stop to cast it. If you are wanting to move fast, disable Death Nova until you are in a fight, or take a different skill. Now, the other Heroes I take vary, but I like Norgu the best. I found a build for him I like a lot, and even use it on my Mesmer at times. This build has a decent mix of anti melee and anti caster. It doesn't excel against either, but it allows for good support during any confrontation. [skill]Ineptitude[/skill][skill]Clumsiness[/skill][skill]Conjure Phantasm[/skill][skill]Phantom Pain[/skill][skill]Epidemic[/skill][skill]Inspired Hex[/skill][skill]Power Drain[/skill][skill]Resurrection Chant[/skill] 16 Illusion Magic 10 Inspiration Magic 10 Fast Casting 2 Healing Prayers Since I play Ranger most of the time, I am always amazed to see a monster be bleeding when I didn't use Screaming Shot on it. I will hit one with it, and after it dies, switch to a new target to see it bleeding already. And since none of my Heroes or Hench can cause bleeding, and there are no minions yet for Jagged Horrors, I know it was Norgu and Epidemic. Works really well to spread the Blind from Ineptitude on bunched up melee foes. In areas with significant caster shutdown needed, I give Norgu: [skill]Migraine[/skill][skill]Frustration[/skill][skill]Leech Signet[/skill] Ok, I'll only share one more Hero build with you. I don't use melee Heroes or Hench much at all. In fact, I'd say I use them less than 10% of the time. However, here is my favorite build for Koss. [skill]Headbutt[/skill][skill]Plague Touch[/skill][skill]Sever Artery[/skill][skill]Gash[/skill][skill]Wild Blow[/skill][skill]Tiger Stance[/skill][skill]Lion's Comfort[/skill][skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill] 15 Strength 12 Swordsmanship 9 Tactics Quite nice to see a Monk enemy become easily interrupted from Koss Dazing it. If you want to run Axe instead of Sword, switch the 2 attack skills to: [skill]Dismember[/skill][skill]Penetrating Blow[/skill] Hench I like the most are: Elem = Herta and Cynn - Cynn isn't bad, but Herta is amazing Necro = Eve and Claude - I always take one of them Mesmer = Erys Vasburg, Seaguard Hala, and Odurra - Erys is very good Warrior = Devona and Little Thom - none are great, but these 2 have fewer faults for me Ranger = Daemon - he is godly, the others need major work to be useful Assassin, Ritualist, Dervish, and Paragon have fewer options, and none are outstanding. If you want to use one, you have little to choose from. |
